Dr Mary Richardson, Keynote SpeakerAssociate Professor of Educational Assessment, UCL Institute of Education
Mary is an Associate Professor of Education (Assessment) at UCL Institute of Education where she leads the MA in Assessment and supervises doctoral candidates researching assessment, ethics and citizenship.
She loves all things assessment and has been in engaged in work researching this area for over 20 years. Recently, she was Principal Investigator for the research strand of the TIMSS2019 project for England and was lead author on the national report. She has just started a three-year research project investigating the user-experience of AI tests of language with PTE Academic at Pearson. Her employment outside of academia includes research in examinations for AQA, the Dept of Education in England, education for campaigning NGOs and practitioner support in schools from pre-school through to post 16.
Her research interests include assessment, ethics of testing and citizenship she is currently completing a book about public confidence and trust in educational assessment. Mary sits on the Councils of the Assessment and Evaluation Association (Europe) and the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain.

With over twenty-nine years experience within the education market as a teacher and working in a variety of roles for technology providers, Matt has built up a significant understanding of the issues relating to the use of e-assessment within education.
In 2010 Matt joined the board of the e-Assessment Association as the association’s Membership Secretary, and then in 2012 he was elected as Chairman, with a focus on supporting the association’s remit to support and inform policy-makers, providers and educators in the use of e-assessment as part of learning delivery.
Until recently Matt was Chief Business Development Officer for leading evidence-based assessment technology provider Digital Assess, a role that has seen him work closely with a number of leading assessment providers and awarding organisations.
Matt now works as an independent consultant within the educational technology sector, supporting technology providers with market strategy development, and both awarding bodies and educators in maximising the positive impact of technology on assessment delivery.

Jeremy has 23 years of commercial experience in the technology industry. Driven by a passion for the role of technology in education, Jeremy has spent 17 years in learning and assessment. Through his work with Questionmark, BTL Group Ltd, as co-founder of Cirrus Assessment and now with his consultancy, Advance EdTech, he has collaborated with many awarding organisations in the UK, helping to deliver some of the largest e-assessment programmes in the country.
A regular contributor and speaker at industry conferences, Jeremy is also a past e-Assessment Award winner with Cirrus Assessment taking the inaugural ``Best Use of Summative Assessment`` award in 2017.

Patrick has worked in e-assessment since the late 90’s having worked on a number of e-assessment programmes with UK awarding bodies e-assessment which included working with QCA and other Government bodies on promoting the adoption of e-assessment. It was working with Promissor (subsequently acquired by Pearson) and then Prometric that led to the choice of MBA dissertations – ‘Barriers to adoption of e-assessment by UK Awarding Bodies.’ Patrick was involved with the creation of BS7988:2007 – The code of practice for the use of IT in the delivery of assessments and subsequently was international editor for the standard to become adopted as ISO 23988:2007.
This experience then led Patrick to join the team working with the four organisations which regulate qualifications in the UK – the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), DELLS (Wales), CCEA (Northern Ireland) and SQA and their collaboration to develop a publication, E-assessment: Guide to Effective Practice. Patrick is now working as an independent consultant in the field of e-assessment supporting UK & US companies with their international strategy and business development activities and providing consultancy to Governments in the Middle East and South Africa.

Helen is an experienced test developer and assessment manager. She has worked in assessment, including e-assessment, for 25 years. In this time she has led a variety of projects developing summative and formative assessments for ages from 6 years-old to adult. Her experience covers all aspects of the assessment development process, including assessment design, item writing and review, trialling, test construction and standard setting.
Helen currently works at the UK office of the Australian Council of Educational Research, where she leads the UK Test Development Team. Helen holds a Masters degree in Education; she is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and a practitioner of AEA-Europe. Previous organisations where she has worked include National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), Edexcel, The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Standards and Testing Agency (STA).
