Beyond AI Innovation: Building Trust Across the Assessment Lifecycle

The Future-Ready Assessment Ecosystem: Learners

Assessment should empower every learner to demonstrate what they know and can do. As technology continues to reshape education, organisations have new opportunities to create more personalised, accessible and engaging assessment experiences while maintaining fairness, validity and trust.

This week explores how assessment can better support learners through AI-supported personalisation, inclusive design, accessibility, and improved learner experiences. Join experts from across the assessment community as they examine practical approaches to designing assessments that meet the diverse needs of today’s learners while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.

About this session

Artificial intelligence is reshaping assessment far beyond the generation of test content. It creates opportunities for more personalised, efficient and responsive assessment experiences. In high-stakes contexts, however, innovation must be accompanied by rigorous governance.

This session explores the role AI can play across the assessment lifecycle, from content authoring and item validation to remote proctoring and grading. At each stage, we will consider how AI might improve the relevance and quality of assessment content, reduce barriers to participation, support consistent decision-making and enable more timely feedback.

The presentation will outline a governance approach in which human expertise remains central. It will examine how responsibilities should be divided between people and automated systems; how AI-generated recommendations can be reviewed and challenged; and how transparency, auditability and ongoing monitoring can be embedded throughout an assessment programme. Particular attention will be given to managing bias, protecting learner data and ensuring that efficiency gains do not compromise the quality or defensibility of assessment decisions.

Attendees will leave with a practical framework for evaluating AI-supported assessment tools, identifying where automation can add genuine value and ensuring that learners’ needs, rights and trust remain central.
