Security or Soundbites? Re-thinking Online English Testing. Stephen Carey in conversation with Paul Muir, Chief Customer Officer @ Risr/
What are the real differences in security between English tests taken in a test centre and those taken online at home, and what can we honestly not yet say?
With Stephen Carey, and Paul Muir, Chair of the Board, Association of Test Publishers (ATP-Global) & Chief Customer Officer at risr/ , this session is primarily designed for all those involved in decision-making around high stakes English language tests for study or work.
Paul specialises in test security, technology-enabled assessment and the responsible use of AI. He is a former Chair of ATP's Security Committee and a founding member of its AI Committee, and co-authored ATP's January 2026 white paper, Human Oversight of AI in Assessment: Considerations for Responsible Use. At risr/ he leads thought leadership, strategic partnerships and engagement with customers and the wider assessment community.
The conversation separates what we know, what we think we know, and what we simply do not know yet, and asks what institutions, policymakers and test users should be demanding before they decide which delivery model to trust.
