Stichting Cito selected Trifork to power the DOE-toets, a national assessment for Group 8 students across the Netherlands. Built on one of the first QTI 3.0 certified exam players by 1EdTech, the project put accessibility at the centre of exam design from day one.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Group 8 students across the Netherlands take the Doorstroomtoets, a national assessment that helps determine which secondary education track suits each child. The stakes are high. The logistics are complex. And for many students, it is their first experience of a formal digital exam.
When Stichting Cito was commissioned to deliver a new version of this assessment, the DOE-toets, they needed a platform that could meet strict requirements for accessibility, scale and open standards. Trifork Amsterdam was selected as technology partner, with Assessible powering the exam player at the heart of the solution.
Built for Every Student
Accessibility was a core requirement from the outset, not added after launch. The DOE-toets player was built for younger learners, with an age-appropriate interface and built-in accessibility tools: text-to-speech for Dutch-language content, high-contrast mode, a magnifier, a reading ruler and calculator tools where permitted. The goal was simple. Give every student, regardless of need, an equal opportunity to show what they know.
Delivered on Open Standards
Assessible’s exam player is one of the first QTI 3.0 certified delivery platforms by 1EdTech. For Cito, that meant assessment content remained fully portable and interoperable, a solid foundation for the future of national-scale e-assessment in the Netherlands.
“Our collaboration in finding innovative ways towards an accessible assessment environment helped us to take the next step in e-assessment.” Saskia Wools, CEO, Cito
The DOE-toets runs on the Trifork Assessment Cloud, providing high availability across schools nationwide. It is one of the stories we are most proud of, and a foundation we continue to build on.
