The e-Assessment Association (eAA) would like to extend its sincere thanks to Graham Hudson as he steps down from the Board after ten years of dedicated service to the Association, including the last four years as Chair.

Graham has made an important contribution to the eAA throughout a significant period of change and growth. Having served for a number of years as Secretary before becoming Chair, he has brought extensive knowledge of the assessment sector, continuity and commitment to the Board throughout his tenure.

During his four years as Chair, Graham has played a central role in strengthening the foundations of the Association and helping to ensure it is well positioned for the future.

A particularly important development during this period was the transition from the former unincorporated association to the company structure the eAA operates under today. This provided the Association with a stronger and more sustainable organisational structure, better suited to supporting its continued growth and development.

Graham has also supported the development of the eAA’s operational capability. Over the past four years, the team responsible for running the Association day to day has grown and developed, enabling the eAA to expand its activities and strengthen the support it provides to its members and the wider assessment community.

Graham’s contribution to the Association has been underpinned by more than 30 years of experience within educational assessment. His career has seen him involved in many significant developments across the sector, from the introduction of GCSEs and Curriculum 2000 to some of the earliest applications of technology in the marking of UK examinations.

Reflecting on his time with the eAA, Graham said:

I have been part of the eAA Board for ten years, including a number of years as Secretary, and for the last four years I have had the privilege of serving as Chair.

When I took on the role, one of the things I particularly wanted to achieve was to put the eAA on a stronger and more sustainable footing. Moving from the old unincorporated association to the company structure we have today was an important part of that. It removed the personal risks that Board members previously carried and gave us a structure much better suited to a growing professional association.

But probably my greatest satisfaction is seeing the team we now have running the eAA day to day. We have some exceptionally talented people who combine real professionalism with a genuine passion for what the Association is trying to achieve. Building that operational capability has allowed the eAA to grow considerably and puts it in a very strong position for the future.

I therefore feel very comfortable that this is the right point for me to hand over. I have achieved much of what I hoped to achieve when I became Chair and I am delighted that Mike Dawe will now take the organisation forward, supported by both the continuing members of the Board and the excellent new directors joining us.

I would also like to thank Matt Wingfield, Emma Hall and Aga Jop as they leave the Board. All three have played their part in the changes we have made and have given me considerable personal support. At the same time, I warmly welcome Dee Arp, Kristin McKinlay and Timothy Miller and look forward to seeing the contribution they will make.

I am enormously proud of what everyone involved with the eAA has achieved over the last four years. Most importantly, I am confident that the organisation is well placed to continue to grow and succeed.

As Graham steps down, the eAA would like to recognise not only his leadership as Chair, but the commitment he has shown throughout his ten years on the Board.

His contribution has helped guide the Association through an important stage in its development and has helped create strong foundations for the next chapter of the eAA under incoming Chair Mike Dawe.

On behalf of the Board, the eAA team, our members and the wider community, we would like to thank Graham for his leadership, commitment and contribution to the Association over the past decade.

We wish him every success for the future and look forward to his continued connection with the e-assessment community.
