The e-Assessment Association (eAA) has published its much-anticipated 2024 Online Proctoring End User Research report.
Online proctoring has been one of the biggest changes in the assessment industry in the last ten years. The onset of Covid led to the large scale and rapid adoption of online proctoring and, whilst this has a positive impact on the industry, it also has the downside of causing organisations to move to implementation too quickly and not necessarily with the best solution most appropriate to their requirements, or the most robust solution.
This report compares the findings of the 2022 and 2024 surveys on online proctoring, examining key aspects such as current usage, reasons for implementation, types of proctoring used, vendor selection criteria and barriers to adoption. Overall, users who were early to adopt online proctoring have seen a number of benefits in particular meeting candidate needs. They are showing confidence in increasing the scale of this mode of delivery across their exams. However, there is also an indication that, despite the surge in popularity since the Covid-19 pandemic, that some organisations remain cautious about getting started.
The report concludes with final recommendations for both end users and suppliers, urging organizations to consider scalability and long-term integration, while advising suppliers to focus on seamless customer support and user-friendly interfaces.
