We are saddened to hear that John O’Sullivan, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on August 8th at the age of 61. John was best known to the eAA community as Chief Executive and Co-Founder of UK exam software company Coelrind. A born-and-bred Londoner, he also held strong, enduring family links to Ireland.
John initiated and handled multiple, concurrent, impactful, education projects. In addition to Coelrind, this included spearheading an awarding body (Asfi Awards), initiating a Anglo-Sino education provider with South China vocational training provider Hi-EDU (SilkRoad EdTech), and forming The Awarding Consortium for awarding body procurement. John spoke at the 2023 International e-Assessment Conference with Mark Krull, demonstrating the dashboard created by Coelrind in association with LCL Awards, that allows AOs to remotely control their centres and live assessments.
His entrepreneurial spirit, sense of humour and contributions to the eAssessment world will be deeply missed by all who knew him. eAA member, Geoff Chapman, remembers him fondly, “John’s interests were exceptionally wide and he always took more than a passing interest in what was on my mind. On more than one occasion, I witnessed John debate robustly with a client – usually on a non-assessment related matter! A quick-minded, humorous and spirited entrepreneur, the eAssessment world has become quieter with his passing.”
John is survived by his partner AnnMarie and children Beth, Ori, and Shane. Details of the funeral service and donations to Kings College Hospital are available at this link: https://john-osullivan1.muchloved.com
