Strategy Day 2026

Each year the eAA holds a Strategy Day to take stock of where the organisation is, hear from partners and collaborators, and agree the priorities that will shape the year ahead. In 2026 the day was held in July for the first time, immediately following the conference and awards season, and it produced a clearer picture of where the eAA is heading and why.

At its core, the eAA exists to help the digital assessment community connect, learn and move forward together.

That has always been true. What Strategy Day 2026 clarified is how the eAA wants to deepen that offer in the coming year: building more of what happens between events, making the knowledge the community generates more accessible and lasting, growing the eAA's international reach with the seriousness it deserves, and developing the partnerships that help the sector respond to change with confidence.

The Day Itself

Strategy Day 2026 was held at the British Council in London in July, bringing together the Board and Operations Team alongside members of the International Working Group and representatives from the Federation of Awarding Bodies. It was the first time the day had been held immediately after the conference and awards season, which meant the discussion was grounded in live results rather than forecasts.

The conversation was shaped by a strong set of outcomes from 2026: record conference delegate numbers and high satisfaction scores, and continued growth across the membership and SIG programmes. Rather than simply reflecting on those results, the day used them as a starting point for a more searching question: what should the eAA build on the back of this, and how?

The answers to that question are now being worked through in the 2027 operational plan and the initiatives set out on this page.

From Strategy Day to Strategy 2027

The Strategy Day explored how the Association can build around its established strengths rather than simply adding more activity.

Discussion focused on six connected areas:

  • events and practical professional learning
  • membership, community and Special Interest Groups
  • sector knowledge, research and evidence
    international development
  • partnerships, collaboration and advocacy
  • the infrastructure and governance needed to support sustainable delivery

Across these conversations, several consistent priorities emerged: events should remain at the heart of the eAA’s work; relationships and learning should continue between events; more of the Association’s knowledge should become accessible throughout the year; and international growth should be deliberate, collaborative and grounded in practitioner experience.

Following Strategy Day, the Operations Team began translating these priorities into a strategic framework for 2027.

“The eAA exists because digital assessment is too important and too fast-moving for any organisation to navigate alone. Strategy Day 2026 was a reminder of what becomes possible when the right people are in the room together.”

Graham Hudson, Chair

The Strategic Framework for 2027

Governance, Focus and Delivery

Maintaining clear priorities, strong oversight and responsible decision-making so that investment is directed towards activity that delivers meaningful and sustainable value for the sector.

Digital Community and Infrastructure

Developing the systems, platforms and ways of working needed to support a more connected community, make resources easier to discover and enable meaningful participation across regions and time zones.

Partnerships, Collaboration and Advocacy

Working with organisations that share the eAA’s commitment to the sector, including the Federation of Awarding Bodies, to support joint advocacy, improve technology awareness and create valuable shared community activity.

International Development

Expanding the Association’s global footprint through the International Working Group, regional networks, practitioner-led activity, international research and partnerships in new and developing markets.

Knowledge, Research and Evidence

Creating a more permanent and accessible home for the knowledge generated through conferences, awards, Special Interest Groups, working groups and the expertise of the eAA community.

Membership, Community and Special Interest Groups

Strengthening the experience of belonging to the eAA by helping members build relationships, share work and continue important professional conversations between individual events and meetings.

Events and Experiences

Building on the strength of the Annual International Conference, Awards and year-round events programme while developing practical formats that create deeper opportunities for learning, connection and participation.

Turning Strategy into Action

The Strategy for 2027 will be delivered through a clear operational plan, with progress reviewed by the Board and shared across the eAA community. Work is already underway on new events, research, partnerships and stronger international connections.
